Bhavik Bakshi: Reinventing the Chemicals & Materials Industry for a Net-Zero, Nature-Positive World
Bhavik Bakshi, Richard M. Morrow Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, The Ohio State University
The chemicals and materials industry (CMI) is a major economic driver across the world, and its products are essential for our well-being. However, this industry is responsible for 30% of direct greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to ecological degradation with products such as plastics, artificial fertilizers, and more. CMI also contributes to land-use change and loss of biodiversity.
Bhavik Bakshi focuses his research on developing systematic methods to ensure that engineering solutions make positive contributions to sustainable development without causing unintended harm. I...

production involves cultivating crops and raising animals on a significant piece of land for commercial purposes. Here are some key aspects of large-scale farming: 1. **Increased Productivity**: Large-scale farms leverage technology, mechanization, and advanced agricultural practices to achieve higher yields and productivity levels⁴. 2. **Global Supply Chains**: These farms play a crucial role in global food supply chains, producing commodities for domestic consumption and export markets⁴. To ensure sustainability, consider adopting practices like **regenerative farming**, which focuses on soil restoration through cover crops, crop rotation, compost, and animal manures. Additionally, explore **organic farming**, which avoids chemicals and pesticides, benefiting water quality, wildlife, and the atmosphere¹.

Context is important... Green Revolution was supposed to get us - particularly India, in general the whole world, some time to get ahead of the population curve. Its easy to give speech condemning the past and the technolgy when stomachs are full and you can sip water when giving the speech. Only if one had experienved empty stomach day after day or felt the anger seeing kids go hungry, can one understand what the Green Revolution did. By the way what's the point of mentioning incidences that have no connection to Green Revolution? Bhopal - yes pesticide company but was an industrial accident... doesn't happen in other industries? And no need to mention reason for violence in Punjab in the 80s... just read some news from back then, one of the bloodiest and sadest time for Bharat...

Vandana does not seem to know much about what "green revolution" is and how it had saved 1 billion lives from death by starvation. She does not mention that India wheat production has increased from 11 million tons a year to 93 million tons as a direct result of green revolution. India was consuming more food than it was producing, today India exports wheat. When she talks about water consumption by agriculture, she fails to mention that yield per acre quadrupled and water used for agriculture is mainly green water - not water you find in your water-tap.

Vision as they say is 20/20 in hindsight. Food situation of the country was so dire at that time, that green revolution was the only possible quick solution. Otherwise millions would perish of hunger☹️

Those who appreciate this lady, They should have to know the ground realities, before green revolution, India faces major or minor drought every 3rd year. I have listened stories my grandfather that they have to shift to near government where government feed our animal and give us some employment like making pound etc. and i am taking about Gujarat, not about Rajasthan or other states. So statment that we have lost more than we have gained from green revolution is totally wrong statement. And use of pesticides make soil worst is true and we have to do something about it, but for that we have to go on ground and try organic farming rather than giving speech in AC Auditorium, rather than that she should work with farmers

Have it delivered bc you will need it. 75 pieces will settle most mortgages soon. Your contract says this debt can only by settled within gold or silver. It’s always said that. That’s why you still have a mortgage. You gotta cancel your straw man.

The real war is the class war. To the "ruling" class normal people are trash, or at best a tool for extortion and experimtation. What she talks about is actual sustainability, which has absolutely nothing to do with the big money "sustainability" they are selling as climate change agenda 2030. There is nothing green, nor sustainable about net zero digitalization and destruction of natural biological life. This woman is the one voice of nature out there. The "ruling" class is a cancer that consumes it's host. We cannot allow it to do so.

He has selflessly staked his formidable reputation as a world-renowned academic, and lent us his stupendous influence with unwavering conviction, in order to put human grief over nonhuman suffering on the map of ethical considerability, and ECOI, well-nigh single-handedly, and with hither-to unmatched impact globally.
